This wednesday's movie was Paul Haggis's (mmm haggis) "Crash." having lurved David Cronemberg's "Crash", i decided to give it a go. Of course, by now it had been pulled off all decent venues, except for Extreme Planet VIP, a 'deluxe' movie theater that has assigned seating (gasp!) on leather-upholstered La-Z-Boy recliners and in-seat service. That means you pay twice what you would to go to a regular theater (still, it comes up to a whooping five dollars you ess) in order to lie down swimming in nacho fumes. Also, the only spots available were on the first row. funnily enough, i had seen Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Dreamers" (mmm penis) on TV a few days before, so i felt like i was Michael Pitt (more like, Eva Green).
But enough foreplay. About the movie. I didn't know crap about the subject matter, only that it somehow involved a plethora of lives brought together by a car accident. Naturally, i expected Amores Perros (that is, puppy love for you anglo infidels) parte dos. Alas, the whole thing was more like Magnolia part two. you know what i mean. thing i liked, how for the first half i was really really uncomfortable, being sure that something terrible was going to happen. thing i didn't like, how the second half tied everything together nicely in a nice big bow of happy endings, with a tragic twist, with a happy twist. bo-ring. and who the hell are they trying to trick into believing that minorities are also racist? it's ludicrous! (get it? am i funny or what?)
and, speaking of joy division, two nights ago i saw Michael Winterbottom's (mmm bottoms) "24 hour party people," which left me scrambling around for my pirate cd of hebrew rock-and-roll. i had to go get 'substance' anyway to fullfill my love will tear us apart needs, but that don't mean i'm not grateful. thank you little aaron. love ya.
